Album Launch Gig
Saturday, 28 February 2009 00:00

As If… live, Aurora Noise launch gig, Feb 28th 2009.

Launching their first album for more than four years, As If… played to a full house at Long Crendon Baptist Church on Saturday 28th February.  A few things always spring to mind when thinking of an As If gig – good, solid, well played rock music, plenty of good humour, and a no-nonsense witness to their faith.  All these and more were in evidence at this showcase gig.

As If... comprise Philip Goss-guitars, keys and vocals ,Phil Heard-drums and percussion and Steve Rothwell on bass. They have an impressive background including being voted 'critics choice' by indieforce.com, 10/10 reviews by Cross Rhythms magazine for the two produced albums and gigs supporting the likes of Delirious and Iona.

Score: 5/5

This is the third album from Aylesbury based As If. Originally they created music that married dance floor grooves, techno beats and rock guitars but their sound is maturing so that these days they marry up poppier sounds, some real live instruments and still maintain plenty of groove. Full Bloom is a metaphor for maturity and the fact that we need to persevere in order to reach full potential.

This is actually the third album from Aylesbury based band As If... and this is the album to give the band the recognition they deserve.

Originally they were a techno rock band but their sound has evolved so that "In Full Bloom" is poppier, with real live instruments. The quote from legendary gardener Percy Thrower on the sleeve suggests that "In Full Bloom" is a metaphor for maturity and the fact that we need to persevere to reach our full potential.

Score 9/10

In the world of grass roots CCM, in my mind As If... are up there with the likes of Kato (pre ICC). They have been round long enough for you to know that their electo based dance music matures with each recording. This latest offering is a little more commercial than 1998's "Strange Blue Thing" and therefore should win the band even more new fans.
